Detailed installation reference
Set up HIFI WALKER H2 Rockbox with the matching bootloader, a FAT32 TF card, the Native Rockbox files, and clear dual-boot controls.
This HIFI WALKER H2 custom firmware guide explains the complete manual process. Rockbox requires two independent components: a bootloader and the Rockbox firmware files. Install them in the order shown below.
Important — record the official firmware version before you start. On the H2, open System Settings → About the Player → Version, then write down the full number and take a clear photo. On some H2 firmware, the same menu may appear as Device Information → Version Information. If recovery is ever required, you must identify the matching official firmware by this version number.

What you need
- Device: HIFI WALKER H2
- TF card: FAT32 TF card for Rockbox
- Computer: internet and USB access
Record the official firmware version
Before starting the H2 bootloader installation, open System Settings → About the Player → Version. Write down the complete version and take a photo. Depending on the installed H2 firmware, the menu labels may instead read Device Information → Version Information.
Keep the version number outside the player. You need it to select the matching bootloader and to identify compatible official recovery firmware.
Format the TF card as FAT32
Back up every file on the TF card first. Insert the card into the H2, then select System Settings → Reset → Format TF card → Yes. Formatting erases the card.
Required for this update: use a FAT32-formatted TF card.
Download the bootloader that matches your H2
On your computer, open the Rockbox HIFI WALKER H2 page and find the bootloader for the exact version recorded in Step 1. Do not select a file by guesswork.

Example from the source guide: for H2 firmware V1.5, the listed file is erosqnative-hw1hw2-erosq.upt. Always confirm the current version table before downloading.
Rename the downloaded file to update.upt
Turn on Show file extensions in your computer file browser, then rename the bootloader file to update.upt. The filename must be exact.

Incorrect: update.upt.upt
Copy update.upt to the TF card root
Copy update.upt directly onto the formatted TF card. Do not put it inside any folder; it must sit in the card root.
Run the H2 bootloader installation
Insert the TF card into the H2. Select System Settings → Firmware Update → Yes. The player installs the bootloader automatically.
“Error loading Rockbox. File not found.” is expected at this point. It means the bootloader has been installed, but the separate Rockbox firmware files have not yet been copied to the card.
Download the Rockbox Native build for H2
Download rockbox-erosqnative-4.0.zip. Rockbox files are available in different builds, so confirm that the archive name contains erosqnative.
On the H2 bootloader screen, use the scroll wheel to highlight USB mode, then press the Play button to confirm. Connect the H2 to the computer.
Extract the Rockbox archive to the TF card
Extract the contents of rockbox-erosqnative-4.0.zip directly to the TF card. Do not create an extra wrapper folder. When extraction is complete, a .rockbox folder should appear in the card root.
Expected TF card root after extraction:

Disconnect the USB cable. In the H2 bootloader menu, select the first item, Rockbox, and press the Play button. The H2 completes the Rockbox startup automatically.
HIFI WALKER H2 dual boot controls
Use the following controls to switch between Rockbox and original firmware. Start each shortcut while the player is powered off.
- Boot menu — Power + Volume Up: press and hold both buttons together.
- Original system — Power + Play: press and hold both buttons together.
- Rockbox — Normal Power button: Rockbox becomes the normal default startup.
